WELDER/MECHANIC/SHIPWRIGHT Shaver Transportation is a tugboat company located in Portland, Oregon. We are looking for a Welder/Mechanic to join our Maintenance Department that repairs and maintains our tugboats, barges and facilities. Successful candidate will work primarily with our Maintenance group to troubleshoot and repair systems, but will be frequently called upon to assist with a wide variety of other maintenance duties. Candidate must be willing to learn and assist as needed with mechanical repairs, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc. On the job training available for improvement in maintenance related tasks. Training rate may apply, depending upon experience. This position is not a "stepping stone" to positions aboard our tugs. It should not be pursued by persons interested in crew (Captain or Deckhand) positions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Welding/Fitting. 2. Perform highly diversified duties to repair and maintain tugboat, barge and the facility's equipment. 3. Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment and performs scheduled maintenance repairs. 4. Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair. 5. Read and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints, specifications and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. 6. Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions. 7. Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties. 8. Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. 9. Perform other duties as assigned or needed. QUALIFICATIONS: Welding, mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance or 3+ years of welding experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be highly motivated and able to work independently. This position requires occasional overtime. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this job include, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Successful candidate must be able to speak, read, and write in the English language. POSITION TYPE: This is a full-time position. Successful candidate must be willing and able to work ten-twelve-hour shifts. Hours of work days will Monday through Thursday 0600 - 1600, or Tuesday through Friday 0600 - 1600. TRAVEL: Occasionally, employee may be expected to travel for this position. WORK AUTHORIZATION After hire, candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Workers Transportation Identity Credential (TWIC), and have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
